The Liverpool Bucket List

With 50 days left in Liverpool, there’s still so much to see! For those coming to Liverpool here’s a list of all the things you should try and do while you’re here.

This list includes things I’ve already done (with pictures!) and tourist spots I’ve yet to go to. As any city there’s always more to do under the surface, and it’s a challenge already to see what I’ve listed but this is a good place to start to fill your trip with all of the sights and a lot of fun!

  • Explore and Shop Liverpool ONE City Centre

The hub of Liverpool, there’s every shopping for every price point from Primark to Michael Kors and a bounty of British brands for you to find some fashion to take home. There’s also an abundance of food, from the fast food chain Nandos, burrito joints, and crepe carts you’ll satisfy any craving. Additionally, make sure to take some time to enjoy the music playing through the centre from one of the many pianos positioned or from a busker or band who set up!

  • Walk around the Albert Docks

As a port city, the docks are a pride of Liverpool, with colorful boats docked along it, statues depicting Liverpool icons, and plenty of food joints it’s perfect for a stroll near the waterside. If you want to leave your mark, come with a lock and add yours to the chains for whatever reason is closest to you: dedicate it to a loved one, commit your love to a partner, or just have your travel pals sign their names for tourists and locals to read and remember.

  • Visit Some of the Free Museums

There’s free museums all around the city, from the TATE, Maritime, and Liverpool museums near the docks to the Walker Museum near Lime Street station there’s no reason to get your fill of art and history while you’re here. They all have some amazing pieces, so if you have a few pence to spare please consider donating to keep them thriving!

  • Go to the Cathedrals

There are two cathedrals in the city, the Liverpool Cathedral and the Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral. Located in Chinatown, the two are near each other so in a short stroll you can see both! Liverpool Cathedral is a gorgeous towering building with a traditional design featuring stunning stained glass and curved archways so persise you can stand where the hoop ends and whisper messages to a friend on the other side! In contrast the Metropolitan cathedral is full of color and more geometric designs. It’s also built on top of a crypt that you can tour for £3.

  • Eat Fish and Chips

A British staple, you can’t come to a waterside city and not try their fish and chips! With stands around the docks and plenty of shops around the city be sure to stop by one and try whatever sauce/dip they pair it with!

  • Drink Proper Tea

Again, when in England. There are an abundance of tea shops and while you’re here be sure to treat yourself to a full tiered tea with finger sandwiches, scones, cakes, and your tea of choice! You’d be surprised how full you can get off this assortment so be sure you have room in your belly to enjoy it all before walking in!

  • Beatlemania

What’s a trip to Liverpool without a taste of the Beatles? With plenty of buses you can book, the Beatles Museum (admission requires a small fee), and famous Beatles landmarks, there’s much to do. You can visit the childhood homes of John and Paul, Strawberry Fields, Penny Lane, and the Beatles favorite Liverpool venue, the Cavern Club, which they played at more than 300 times! Additionally there’s statues of the four around the city and plenty of guides to take you there.

  • Check out the Pub Scene (and try to catch a Liverpool Game!)

Whether you want to brave concert square (college crowd hotspot) or find yourself in one of the many other pubs, clubs, and bars around the city make sure you experience what was voted the best nightlife in the UK! Bonus points, catch a game while you’re here and cheer along with the locals as we root for Liverpool FC!

  • Superlambanana

Finally, while in Liverpool see the superlambanana statue and its copies that reside around the city! Sheep and bananas were common cargos from the docks, so born was the lambanana which can be found by the Liverpool John Moores University and its many offspring all around the city.
